About the Bands

The Lexington High School Band Program of Lexington, South Carolina is fed by six elementary schools, one intermediate school, and two middle schools. In Lexington School District One, band and orchestra students start instruction in the fifth grade. The elementary band directors also teach general music while the director at the intermediate school is full-time band. Lexington Middle School and Pleaseant Hill Middle School both have full-time band directors. There are two full-time high school directors. The Lexington bands continue to excel in all phases of marching, concert, and jazz performance.

The Concert Band Program at Lexington High School consists of approximately 175 students in the ninth through twelfth grades. The students are divided into three concert bands: The Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble.

The Lexington High School Wind Ensemble, Lexington's top performing group, has performed at the South Carolina Music Educators In-Service Conference, the University of South Carolina Band Clinic, the University of Southern Mississippi Conductors Conference, the College Band Directors National Association/National Band Association Conference, Music Educators National Conference Southern Division In-Service Conference, Bands of America Regional Concert Band Festivals, and the BOA National Concert Band Festival. In 2006, the band performed at The Disney Honors. In 1988, Lexington became the first band from the state of SC to perform at the prestigious Mid-West International Band and Orchestra Clinic.
